Marije Baalman

About Marije Baalman

Marije Baalman is an artist and researcher/developer working in the field of interactive sound art. She has an interdisciplinary background in physics, acoustics, electronic music, and interactive art. She composes behaviors and interaction modalities in her artistic work, using physical computing, live-coding, and digital and analog sound processing.

To realise her works she mostly uses open source technology (software and hardware) and she is an active contributor to the open source community.

She has performed and exhibited work across Europe (STEIM (NL), WORM (NL), Transart (IT), iMal (BE), Electropixel (FR), Artefact/STUK (BE)), and beyond (Electrofringe (AU), Translife (CN), Elektra (CA), Soulangh Cultural Park (TW)).

She is a contributor to “The SuperCollider Book” (MIT Press, 2011), and recently published a book titled: “Composing Interactions – An Artist’s Guide to Building Expressive Interactive Systems” (V2_, 2022).
