Hans Beckers at November Music
Deep and thoughtful listening is an art. In all his sound works Hans Beckers is imbued with the magic of listening. For Beckers, listening is a way of recolouring the reality around us. Beckers transforms everyday objects and natural materials such as desert sand, seeds, grass, steam and water into blistering sound works and performances.
In his latest music performance, La Floresta, which he developed at iii, he goes a few steps further and uses unusual, archaic musical instruments in addition to natural objects. Instruments that will be part of Beckers’ installation/performance include the mustache bot, the membrane phone, rattles, singing bowls, stringed instruments and natural objects such as leaves, branches and stones. In La Floresta , all the instruments are mechanically driven, so that different rhythmic patterns are woven. In addition, Beckers plays his self-built table noise machine . Nature and technology are dynamically played off against each other. The audience is an essential part of Beckers’ trance-like performance.
