Poplar Yuddha
Lazarus Chan 2022
During his residency with iii Lazarus Chan will develop ‘Poplar Yuddha’, a project which utilizes infrasound field recordings of WWII sites around the Hague to explore parallels between this aspect of the Hague’s history and present-day Hong Kong.
“ Infrasound refers to sound below 20hz, it contains an excellent transmission ability and is used in cinema as the sound of horrors. In reality, we use infrasound to monitor earthquakes, volcanoes, and to detect and locate nuclear explosions.
Poplar Yuddha researches infrasound visualization with an installation and sound capture device, exhibiting the midnight of Doomsday Clock and anxiety of apocalypse.”
This residency is in collaboration with Contemporary Musiking Hong Kong (CMHK).
